Graduate Students Advising

Graduate students and postdoctoral appointees can schedule individual, confidential career advising appointments with a graduate career strategist. It is not uncommon for graduate students and postdoctoral appointees to experience some career indecision especially as they reach the end of their degree program or their postdoctoral appointment. The Career Center’s skilled Career Development Specialists can provide direction in creating a career plan, designing a targeted job search strategy, and in the preparation of search communication materials including curriculum vitae, resumes, and cover letters.

Frequently addressed advising issues include: career options outside of the academy, non-bench careers for scientists, thinking “outside of the box” to appreciate a wider range of career options for those with advanced degrees, and understanding and negotiating total compensation packages.

The Career Center is a valuable resource for those who have very focused career and job objectives as well as those who are undecided about their future career goals. Appointments are available both on the Medical School campus in the Becker Library building (room 527) as well as on the Danforth Campus in 110 Danforth University Center. Please call (314) 935-5930 to schedule an appointment.
