At The Career Center, we view career planning as an integrated
component of a student’s Washington University education. Our role
is to help students build upon their learning in the classroom
through the applied experiences of internships, research, shadowing,
and active career exploration. Faculty and staff can facilitate
a student’s career planning with support, encouragement, and connections
to the staff and services at The Career Center.
Students are encouraged to begin the career planning process as
freshmen. To help this process, The Career Center has developed
a Four-Year
Career Plan to give students a road map for success. The plan
focuses on self-discovery, internships, job search strategies,
and implementing a plan for post-graduation.
As a faculty member, you can encourage students to complete the
specific tasks of the Four-Year
Career Plan. Because The Career Center focuses on the development
of life-long career management skills, most of the workshops offer
practice in general areas, including assessment of skills and interests,
resume writing, and interviewing. The development of these skills
will benefit all students, including those who plan to attend graduate
or professional school.
Please take a moment to review the Four-Year
Career Plan. We value your partnership and your interest
in helping every student to be successful in his or her post-graduation
plans.
