Transitional
Programs |
|
| Transitional programs
are time-limited jobs that allow you to explore a career field,
engage in service learning, or gain some experience before landing
a full-time job or applying for graduate/professional school.
Well-known programs include Peace Corps, Teach for America and
Coro. The search process is the same as looking for a full-time
job. You'll want to research salary or stipend, benefits, housing
and location when looking for a program. |
|
CAREERlink Search Tips: Transitional Programs
- Log into CAREERlink
- Under the My Jobs tab, complete a keyword search for "transitional"
- Some fellowships and post-graduate internships may function

Informational
Interviewing & Creating Your Network |
|
| Once you have researched
an industry that interests you, the best strategy to learn more
and make contacts is to talk with people in the field. Ask about
the rewards, challenges, and typical characteristics of entry-level
positions in their organization. Find out how they landed their
first job. You may even tap into job opportunities that are
not posted! |

Senior Prep Series
SPS will help you be prepared, polished and confident when you
apply for jobs and interact with employers. SPS is important for all seniors, and it is required for those interested in attending a Road Show or participating in on-campus interviews and resume collects. Graduate students who wish
to participate in these activities must also complete Senior
Prep Series.
SPS begins with a 75-minute Senior Specialist & Mock Interview Appointment. Your initial appointment will consist of an advising session and mock interview. If the length of the appointment does not fit with your schedule, this appointment can be split into two separate, 45-minute sessions.
Note: You will be expected to dress professionally. You will also need to bring an updated resume and job description to your appointment. The job description will guide you through your mock interview and should be a job in which you are applying or one that is of interest. If you come unprepared, you will be required to reschedule your Senior Specialist & Mock Interview Appointment.
At the end of your appointment, your advisor will discuss tips, next steps and a plan for completion of the series. This may or may not include a follow-up appointment or additional steps you will need to accomplish to complete the series.
|
| You can complete SPS any time, but we recommend
that you do it early in the fall semester. Some employers (especially
those in technical, finance, consulting and engineering fields)
complete their recruiting in the fall. Check out our Calendar
of Events to RSVP for workshop dates and times. |

On-Campus
Interviews & Resume Collects |
|
Employers from across
the country recruit WU students for job opportunities in a variety
of industries. You must complete Senior Prep
Series to be eligible to apply for on-campus interviews
and resume collects. Some organizations are able to visit campus
to connect with students for information sessions and/or on-campus
interviews.
- Information Sessions give you a chance
to learn about an organization's culture, entry-level positions,
and characteristics they desire in applicants. Info sessions
are a great way to get your foot in the door and introduce
yourself to the recruiter. Dress business casual to make
a good impression.
- On-Campus Interviews are either open
to all applicants or those who have been pre-screened by
the employer.
- Resume Collects allow us to connect
you with employers who are unable to visit campus. Your
materials are sent directly to the employer after you apply
through CAREERlink.
