CCE welcomes 600+ first year students during Fall Open House

On Thursday, August 22, over 600 first-year and transfer students eagerly flooded the three Center for Career Engagement (CCE) locations for the inaugural Fall Welcome: CCE Open House. With representation from all six of the undergraduate career communities, coaches and other CCE staff joyfully greeted each visitor. While students indulged in sweet treats from Grandma’s Cookies (voted “Best Cookie Shop in America” by USA Today) information was shared to promote the wide variety of resources available.

Each career community is industry-focused and offers opportunities that inspire confidence regarding decisions about one’s future. Students are encouraged to explore one or more communities and can benefit from resources such as one-on-one coaching appointments, curated content, newsletters, programs, panels, and more!

To add an extra layer of fun and test the competitive nature of these newly landed college students, a challenge was implemented to help familiarize students with the physical CCE offices of DUC 110, Bauer Hall 250, and Knight Hall 210. With a passport card in hand, students received one star at each location. If all three stars were collected, the completed card was entered into a raffle for a chance to win a WashU hoodie. Paper folding tactics were utilized, odds were calculated, and after an astounding 364 entries, three winners were announced. Congrats to Jack Grbic, Ashlynn Huebner, and George Nguyen.

After a fun-filled day, the CCE is ready for another exciting year at WashU! We wish all students a warm welcome back and are looking forward to continuing the connections, developing the interests, and ensuring this campus is committed to Career Everywhere.
