Student Group Support

Graduate Student Groups:

Please reach out directly to your Career Community for additional information.

Undergraduate Student Groups:

Please Note: Your student club or organization must be registered and recognized through the WashU Student Union.

Events and Employer Collaboration

Collaborating with WashU’s Center for Career Engagement allows your student groups and our office to build long-term relationships with alumni and employers. When hosting events with employers, please share event details with our office by emailing careers@wustl.edu . Specify if the event is members-only, open, or if you require assistance.

If your event is open to all students on campus, the CCE can assist with:

  • On-campus room reservations
  • Marketing
  • Employer and alumni connections
  • Posting in Handshake or OlinConnect (required)

Guidelines for Events with Employers:

  • Events should align with educational goals, such as alumni panels or career workshops
  • Check for scheduling conflicts with other WashU programs on Handshake/OlinConnect
  • Plan events well in advance for adequate preparation and marketing time. Requests made with less than two weeks of notice cannot be guaranteed.
  • Events should focus on education rather than recruitment
  • Student organizations are responsible for arranging room setup, including logistics of the room (audio, visual, seating, etc.)
  • Employer information sessions or recruiting events should be coordinated through careers@wustl.edu. Students should not promise employers space for an information session.

Tailored Career Coach Workshops

The CCE offers workshops that are aligned to the five stages of our Career Engagement Process: Understand Yourself; Envision Possibilities; Prepare; Search & Apply; and Engage. Please contact careers@wustl.edu for workshop requests. Sample presentations include:

  • Understand yourself: How who you are informs your major and career
  • Understand yourself: Choose a specific assessment (e.g., values, interests, skills, and personality)
  • Envision possibilities: Connect to Career Options
  • Prepare: Cover letter, resume, and/or LinkedIn
  • Prepare: Networking for success
  • Search & apply: Job/internship search strategies
  • Search & apply: Interview strategies
  • Search & apply: Negotiations
  • Engage: How to articulate the value of your work/experience (e.g., study abroad, PhD research, etc.)
  • Engage: Make the most of your experience
  • Custom workshops

Additional Considerations For Workshops & Events

  • Requests made with less than two weeks of notice cannot be guaranteed. Please plan accordingly.
  • CCE staff are generally available for programs Monday-Friday until 5pm. For programs outside of regular business hours, staffing may be provided by one of our trained student workers if available, but is not guaranteed.
  • Our busiest times are August – October for the fall term and January – March for the spring term. If you are requesting programming during this period, we will prioritize on a first come, first served basis.
  • Workshops for a student audience are only available for groups of 10 or more. (For groups of fewer than 10, we encourage your group to schedule 1-1 coaching appointments for personalized support).

We recommend student groups connect with the Campus Life Student Union or Academic Schools regarding the below topics:

  1. Funding & Grants: Allocating budgets, grants, or funds for student group activities, events, and projects
  2. Logistical Support for Meeting Spaces (outside of events with employers): Providing access to meeting rooms, event spaces, and other facilities on campus for group meetings and events
  3. Promotional Support (outside of events with employers): Assisting with promoting events and activities through the student union’s communication channels, including social media, newsletters, and campus flyers
  4. Student Union Event Listings: Featuring student group events on the student union’s event calendar and website
